Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls soccer team is only one victory away from getting back to the Regional Final following the Eagles 6-0 win in Regional Quarterfinals over South Dade Senior High School Tuesday night.
The Eagles, who went 10-1-3 in the regular season, picked up two wins in the District Championship. They defeated J.P. Taravella High School 5-0 before beating Coral Glades in the Final on an overtime goal from Layla Segelnick.
Offensively, Molly Conn was a part of three goals off corner kicks, scoring one and assisting as Gianna Rizzo, and Kendall Slack tallied one. Addison Krajczewski, Sam Novik, and Sahai Simmonds all recorded one goal. Goaltenders Carly Brodsky and Ella Stevens combined to pick up the shutout, which is their 13th of the season.
“It was a great team effort, and I was very proud of their intensity and focus tonight,” said Head Coach Laura Rountree.
Next, MSD will play Cypress Bay High School in the Regional Semifinals on Friday, February 11 at 5 p.m. The Lightning went 10-4-1 in the regular season and defeated Cooper City High School in the District Championship and Regional Quarterfinal.
The game will be the first meeting between these two schools since November 16. MSD won 1-0 as Conn scored the lone goal but was eliminated in the State Semifinals last year following their 2-1 loss.
