From Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine
As we begin 2026, District 3 and Broward County continue to be on the right trajectory for success. Our community is seeing exceptional economic investment and companies are making Broward County their home through the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance and the County Commission’s efforts. This is leading to growth throughout all sectors of our economy. I encourage you to explore the many resources through the Broward Office of Economic and Small Business Development available at Broward.org/EconDev.
The Broward County Convention Center hotel is officially a reality! In December, I attended the ribbon-cutting for the brand-new Omni Fort Lauderdale Hotel located on-site at the convention center. This 800-room, upscale headquarters hotel will elevate the convention center experience, support the capabilities of our 1.2-million-square-foot center, and serve as a new landmark for Broward County. With this addition, we can expect larger conventions and events that will significantly benefit our local economy for years to come.
This year, South Florida will also host the NHL Winter Classic! Broward’s own Florida Panthers will take on the New York Rangers at Loan Depot Park—roof open—marking the first time an NHL hockey game will be played outdoors in South Florida. The festivities will conclude with the game on January 2, bringing local fans, visitors and national attention to our region. Go Panthers!
This month, I will be attending the annual Broward Days event, which highlights our County to members of the Florida Legislature. The event includes meetings with state leadership and advocacy for key programs that support Broward residents. I look forward to working with our Intergovernmental team, along with our state representatives and senators as we bring Broward’s voice to Tallahassee.
Each January, we honor the life, legacy, and service of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I encourage you to not only enjoy the day off but to make it a day of commitment by supporting an organization in our community. By working together to improve the common good, we move closer to fulfilling the dream Dr. King envisioned.
