Parkland families in search of some ‘reel fun’ this summer can cast their line as the city hosts its annual Youth Fishing Derby at Pine Trails Park.
The free community event will take place on Saturday, June 13, July 11, and August 8 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Pine Trails Park Fishing Pier.
The Derby is open exclusively to Parkland residents ages 3 through 12. No prior fishing experience is required.
Participants are required to bring their own fishing poles, line, hooks, bait, sunscreen, and water. Live bait is permitted, but organizers noted that multi-hooked lures will not be allowed due to the close proximity of participants fishing together.
Young anglers will compete in a family-friendly fishing contest featuring awards for the largest catch and the most fish caught during each event. Children are encouraged to attend alongside a parent or guardian.
City officials also reminded attendees to fish only from designated piers or shoreline areas and not to enter the water.
The Youth Fishing Derby is designed to give children a fun opportunity to spend time outdoors, learn fishing basics, and enjoy Parkland’s natural spaces during the summer months.
