State Champion and Parkland resident Michael Mocco again dominated with an incredible week of wrestling.
Not only did he win 16U National Championship and the Most Outstanding Wrestler on July 19, but Mocco followed that up with a victory in the Greco-Roman Championship on July 22.
“I think my conditioning was pretty good,” Mocco said. “I go and practice the moves over and over, so it’s mind over memory. I try to just stay focused and not worry about the outside noise. It’s tunnel vision.”
Mocco won all six matches during the National Championship and outscored his opponents 61-0. During the Greco-Roman Championship, he won five matches and allowed only six points after shutouts in his first three matches.
Previously, Mocco won a State Championship this year at Cardinal Gibbons. He has gone 90-4 in his last two years and wrestled at Coral Springs Charter as an eighth grader. Next, Mocco is set to start his senior year of high school. He plans on continuing to take some time to recover before preparing for the Folkstyle Preseason National Tournament in October.
