The Pompano Beach High Make Our Schools Safe Club (MOSS) has been selected as a finalist for the Fall 2022 Invent2Prevent competition in Washington, D.C.
The I2P program, an EdVenture Partners initiative, challenges high school and college students to create and implement their own solutions to prevent acts of targeted violence, hate, or terrorism in their communities.
The MOSS club, made up of Ally Vagelos, Zoey Katz, Sofia Ramirez, Ayla Friedman, and Krystal Felix, will present their project, “Bonding Buddies,” to a panel of senior executives.
“Bonding Buddies” is an initiative aimed at eliminating social isolation and fostering relationships among Pompano Beach Elementary School youth. The program, which pairs older students with younger ones as mentors, uses activities like gift-giving, bracelet-making, and icebreakers to build relationships and provide stability to students in need.
Make Our Schools Safe is a national non-profit organization dedicated to protecting students and teachers at school. It was created in 2018 after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting took the lives of 17 victims, including founder Lori Alhadeff’s daughter Alyssa.
According to Invent2Prevent, this year’s competition was the most difficult yet, with teams bringing forward progressive, creative, and innovative projects and initiatives.
