While the flag football season was ending for Westglades, it was starting back up for Marjory Stoneman Douglas this week.

The Wolves won the District Championship following their 14-6 win against Silver Lakes Middle School in the final. The Wolves beat Falcon Cove in the semifinals after going 12-0 during the regular season.

Their team consists of Aria Azzarelli, Noa Rachimi, Ava LaRosa, Isabella Miller, Jordin Bekker, Valentina Pizzuto-Pedraza, Rylie Brown, Alexa Cruz, Kaitlyn Taylor, Allye Backman, Courtney Heymach, Paige Kalvalitis, Ava Kelleher, Allison Ofstein, Ariel Kauffman, Valentina Holley, Elisabeth Garzon, Elyana Garzon, and Analiese Gary.

“This is my ninth year coaching the girl’s flag football team and to say I am proud is an understatement,” said Head Coach Dawn Azzarelli. “Choosing the most talented and focused young ladies was key. The girls played smart and with heart. This season was the ultimate display of girl power, and being able to share it with this team and with my daughter was beyond amazing.”

The MSD flag football team is officially underway, with the Eagles picking up their first win of the season.

Despite falling in their first Game, MSD defeated J.P. Taravella 32-6 behind a three-touchdown performance from Sophia Del Molin. She now has four this year after scoring the only score in the team’s first game. Nyomi Hudson also scored twice, while Morgan Godman shined on defense.

The rest of the team consists of Emily Ledbetter, Emily Garcia, Savannah Tenore, Mickayla Sugrano, Lilac Jurick, Samantha Calavetta, Hailey Suchodolski, Victoria Llavaneras, Aubrey Lattorre, Mia Beteta, Alina Caravello, Kenslee Ward, Jordyn Barerez, Daveigh Rapersad, Makayla Jules, Jordan Tessier, McKayla McLughlin, Juli Colon, Rebekah Sasser, Kaylah Nazaire, Saanvi Singh, Samar Murad, Angelina Cortes, Quinn Braun, Ayla Sachs, Lily Ledbetter, and Sienna Reid.
