2 Original Florida Pokers Teams Claim Titles on National Stage

The Original Florida Pokers enjoyed a championship-filled week, with both the 14U and 15U teams bringing home tournament titles.

The 14U squad completed a remarkable run by winning the Palm Beach Open Championship. Entering the tournament with a 21-13 record, the Pokers rattled off seven consecutive victories, including three wins on the final day, to improve to 28-13.

The tournament opened with a 13-0 victory over CTG on Saturday. Brayden Basso starred offensively with four RBIs, two doubles, and a triple, while Mason Suarez threw a shutout. The Pokers followed with another 13-4 win over Cabrera on Sunday as Basso knocked in four more runs and Tyler O’Dell earned the win on the mound.

On Monday, the Pokers edged Ghost 56, 5-3, behind a strong outing from M.J. Chen, with Bradley Wong recording the save. They then cruised past Lynx Victus 10-0 on Tuesday as Colton Russo drove in two runs and Basso continued his torrid hitting with two more extra-base hits.

Championship Wednesday began with a 9-2 victory over Wahoos Select as Suarez earned his second win of the tournament. The Pokers then defeated Los Explorers 12-4 behind four RBIs from Jake Quintana. O’Dell, Basso, and Chen each added two RBIs, while O’Dell struck out eight over five strong relief innings.

The title game provided plenty of drama. After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, the Pokers exploded for nine runs in the second before adding four more in the third to build a 13-4 advantage. They withstood a late rally to secure a 13-12 championship victory.

Silas Anstett delivered the biggest swing of the game with a grand slam and finished with six RBIs. Chen homered and drove in two runs, while Quintana added an RBI and closed out the victory on the mound. Wong and Chase Vega also drove in runs during the championship win.

The 15U Pokers also celebrated a tournament title, winning the BCS Championship after posting an 8-1 record. They opened by going 3-1 in pool play, outscoring opponents 39-8 in their three victories.

Joey Singh, Bello Suarez and Andy Herrera each earned wins on the mound before the Pokers suffered their lone loss, a 2-1 setback to FTB National. They bounced back in bracket play with a 7-5 victory over Oklahoma Fuel behind another strong pitching performance from Mason Moeller.

The most exciting game of the tournament came later that day when the Pokers rallied for a 10-7 victory on a walk-off grand slam by Robbie Denigan. Trailing by two runs entering the final inning, the Pokers scored five runs to complete the dramatic comeback.

They closed out the tournament with three more victories on Wednesday. Singh earned another win in an 8-2 victory over USA Scout. Mateo Guzman started the semifinal against Power Baseball before Bello recorded the final six outs to preserve a 2-1 win.

In the championship game, the Pokers erased an early 5-0 deficit by scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed again, defeating Scorpio 12-10 to capture the title. The victory improved the 15U team to 29-4 this summer.
