Schools are out for the summer, and I would like to congratulate all students on a successful school year! Whether you are attending summer camp, taking a break on a summer road trip, or hitting the high seas on a cruise, this summer will be one to remember. If you are a new graduate going to college this fall, joining the armed forces, or entering the workforce, Broward has many resources to offer. Broward County Libraries have resources available daily, including sessions with job recruiters to continuing education. Additionally, Broward County has diverse job opportunities for all levels. I encourage you to apply because your future is bright right here in Broward!
Are you starting a business or looking to grow one? June 12 is the Broward and Beyond Business Conference from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This event will showcase upcoming projects and funding opportunities, along with presentations on government procurement, contracting opportunities, business networking, and much more. Visit Broward.org/bizbeyond to register and for more information on the available sessions.
Hurricane Season begins June 1 and Broward County wants you to be prepared. Come up with a plan as soon as possible. Storm season means having the necessary supplies for you and your family, including pets. Things to purchase include nonperishable foods, water, medications, batteries, and flashlights. If you have a special need or need to evacuate to a shelter, make sure to find the safest place to go. For information, please visit Broward.org/hurricane or your city’s website for more information.
June means budget workshop season at Broward County Government. We will hear presentations from departments such as Wastewater Services, Port Everglades, Aviation, and Transportation Surtax, among many others. Also, we will be briefed by constitutional officers such as the Broward Sheriff and the Property Appraiser. All workshops are streamed live via Broward.org and are available to the public. It is my priority to lower costs for residents by working with our departments, the county commission, and constitutional officers to increase efficiency to lower taxes. I will continue to fight for the residents of District 3 and Broward County every day to ensure our community continues to succeed.
Broward County will observe Juneteenth on Friday, June 19, this year. All Broward County offices will be closed as we honor this holiday. This is an opportunity to celebrate freedom for all and gives residents the chance to learn about the vital history of our nation. For more information on Juneteenth, please visit Broward.org/Library and check out local events in your city!
Finally, I would like to wish Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! Being a father is one of the biggest responsibilities one can have and is one of the greatest joys in life. I hope all the dads have a relaxing Father’s Day and enjoy.
