Summer is in full swing! Whether the kids are in camp, you’re enjoying a staycation, or traveling on a summer adventure, Broward County has you covered. The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Port Everglades have many last-minute flights and cruises still available. Check out some of Broward County’s history at the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens or the Stranahan House. We’re also facing high temperatures so please follow local news and weather outlets for heat advisories and visit one of the many Broward water parks throughout the county to cool off. There is something for everyone this summer in Broward County!
Speaking of water parks or a day by the pool, did you know that Broward County offers programs to teach kids to swim? Drowning is a leading cause of death for children and is preventable with education. Swim Central runs programs throughout the year to teach young kids water safety and basic swim skills. Since 1999, Swim Central has enrolled 600,000 children and provided 3.5 million lessons. For more information on signing up call 954-357-7946 or email swimcentral@broward.org.
Is your community feeling the bite from mosquitoes? Summer months are known for mosquito season throughout Broward County. Remember to avoid being out at dawn and dusk to prevent bites and empty any standing water that you find. Broward County is also here to help. Request mosquito control to evaluate your community for potential remedies. Please call 954-765-4062 to receive a mosquito service form, let’s take the bite out of mosquitoes.
Everyday more pets are arriving to shelters and looking for a home. Broward County Animal Care is looking for local students who want to foster cats and dogs this summer. Students will be rewarded with service hours. Don’t forget, students are required to complete 40 service hours before graduation. This opportunity includes free pet food and veterinary care. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved in the community. For more information on how to participate, please visit https://www.broward.org/animal/Pages/default.aspx
