BSO Brings Free Prescription Drug Take-back and Shredding Event to Parkland In October 5

The Broward Sheriff’s Office will give residents an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted prescription medications and sensitive documents during a free community event in Parkland.

BSO’s Operation Medicine Cabinet and Shred-A-Thon will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Parkland Equestrian Center, 8350 Ranch Road.

Hosted by Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony and BSO, the event is designed to help prevent prescription drug abuse and identity theft.

Through Operation Medicine Cabinet, residents can turn in unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications for safe disposal. Needles and other sharp objects will not be accepted.

Participants who turn in prescription medication will receive a $5 gift card while supplies last. Gift cards will be limited to one per person.

The Shred-A-Thon portion of the event allows residents to securely dispose of documents containing personal or sensitive information. Participants may bring up to two boxes of shreddable documents per vehicle, with boxes no larger than 16 inches long, 12 inches wide, or 12 inches high.

Both services are free to the community.
