Like so many other things disrupted by COVID-19, Mother’s Day sure feels different this year.
The health crisis has impacted the way we traditionally celebrate most holidays in 2020. With some creative thinking, however, we have assembled a list of suggestions to safely spoil all of the mamas and support local businesses this Sunday.
Taking mom to a lavish Mother’s Day brunch is not an option this year. Instead, surprise her with breakfast in bed from Parkland Bagels & Deli, which is offering catering for pre-orders and curbside, pickup, and delivery all day long. If you spend $50 or more on May 10, you will receive a free half dozen bagels with your next visit.
Mimosas always pair well with breakfast. Grab a bottle of something bubbly at Basser’s Fine Wine & Craft Beer. The Coral Springs wine shop is promoting Mother’s Day specials on wines and greeting cards for curbside pickup.
Moms love family portraits, but social distancing has complicated large family gatherings. Photographer Alissa DeLucca devised a way to re-capture family moments by creating custom illustrations in time for Mother’s Day. Simply select your background and package, upload a reference image, and receive your fine art print in the mail or via digital download. “I am also offering watercolor edits,” she said. “Buy one and gift one for free to a hero in the community.”
Spa days are also non-existent in South Florida these days. Treat mom to a much-needed lavender soothing gift pack from Coral Springs-based The Vegan Cosmetics Store. The gift set includes a lavender-scented vegan bar soap, hand cream, foaming hand, and body wash, a loofah, and, while supplies last, a bonus hand sanitizer. You can also customize your gift with additional products, and it will be wrapped and shipped for free. Read more about how The Vegan Cosmetics Store is raising funds to give thanks to healthcare workers here.
Sweeten Mother’s Day with a bouquet of sweet treats from The Hodge Podge Baking Co. The Parkland bakeshop is delivering mallow pops, pretzels, cake pops, and Rice Krispy pops wrapped in a chocolate-dipped waffle cone or a special treat box containing an assortment of handmade toffee, pretzels, cookies, and other baked goods for only $25.
Crate Your Party of Coral Springs is also featuring decorated sugar cookie gift sets, chocolate-dipped strawberries, cupcakes, roses and balloons to celebrate South Florida moms. The party company is offering free delivery to Parkland and curbside pickup on Saturday and Sunday morning.
Queens Tea House has a Mother’s Day High “Stea” Special where mom gets to choose the cup of tea: Crème Brûlée, Chai Hibiscus Punch, Lemon Lavender, English Breakfast. Then enjoy a tasty variety of Fresh Salmon Canape, Chicken Salad Croissant, Egg Salad Tea Sandwich, Cucumber, cream cheese Sandwich, two Mini savory quiches, Scone with clotted cream and preserves, two mini sweets and fresh fruits. The special includes a lovely decorated cupcake and a gift certificate for a glass of champagne. The cost is $30. Call 954-775-0210. Available for pickup or delivery for Parkland and vicinity.
The Salt Box in Parkland is offering free, contactless delivery to those in Parkland or Coral Springs or electronic delivery for any salt therapy gift certificates or retail—including locally made candles, salt scrubs, facial oils, herbal tea blends, and a variety of other presents, such as gem rollers, plants, singing bowls, journals, and much more. Salt therapy gift cards can be redeemed at any time when they reopen and can be purchased by calling them at 954-906-5985.
Show your love to mom and feed her soul at Dyan’s Country Kitchen. Pre-order your Mother’s Day breakfast basket today through Saturday by 2 pm. It feeds four people for only $60 plus tax. Pick-up curbside on Sunday by your requested time. 8am – 2pm. Call 954-755-7590 for details.
Daily exercise has been essential during this period of quarantine. For the moms who prefer a sportier gift, Runner’s Depot has several Garmin Smart Watches on sale this week through Mother’s Day. The Davie location is holding a special sale on Sunday with a free glass of champagne for all moms.
Even in light of the coronavirus restrictions, remember to share the love and celebrate the mothers in your life on Sunday.
