Harley and Mary at the Humane Society of Broward County.
Two very special animals at the Humane Society of Broward County are waiting patiently for loving families to take them home — one with a wagging tail and the other with a gentle hop.
Harley, a six-year-old mixed-breed dog, may weigh 69 pounds, but it’s her heart, not her size, that makes the biggest impression. Found as a stray, Harley did have a microchip, but her previous owners chose not to reclaim her.
Now, this affectionate, well-mannered pup is looking forward to a fresh start. Harley is great with kids, friendly with other dogs, and has a sweet, happy personality. She enjoys chasing balls, taking baths, and gobbling up treats, but more than anything, Harley simply wants to be close to her people.
She’s low-maintenance, too. She won’t jump on couches or beds and can fall asleep just about anywhere. Thanks to the generosity of J.R. Dunn Jewelers, Harley’s adoption fee has been fully sponsored.
Mary the bunny is also seeking a second chance. The beautiful rabbit was found as a stray and is believed to have possibly been an unwanted Easter gift. Mary is just one of more than a dozen rabbits currently at the shelter, all hoping to find a safe and loving home.
In celebration of the Florida Panthers’ Eastern Conference Championship win and in honor of player Sam Bennett and his organization @bennysbuddies9, all bunny adoption fees have been waived for a limited time. Whether you’re an experienced rabbit parent or new to bunny care, the Humane Society provides helpful resources to support adopters every step of the way.
Anyone interested in adopting Harley, Mary, or any of the shelter’s other pets is encouraged to fill out a pre-adoption application at www.humanebroward.com and visit the shelter located at 2070 Griffin Road in Fort Lauderdale. The shelter is open daily at 11 a.m., and the vaccine clinic opens at 8:30 a.m. six days a week.
