The Marjory Stoneman Douglas flag football team won their first District Championship since 2010 on Thursday.
The Eagles, who had not won a playoff game since 2013, earned the top seed and recorded a bye in the opening round before beating Monarch High School 19-0. Samantha Calavetta threw for 125 yards with three touchdowns, with Kenslee Ward crashing two and Courtney Heymach catching the other. Alina Carovello led the team with six tackles before facing Deerfield Beach High School in the final on Thursday.
MSD won 12-6, with Daria Boykin picking off a pass and returning it for a score, while Hemyach recorded a rushing touchdown.
“These young lady eagles put it together on both sides of the ball today,” Head Coach Chris Baldwin said. “Great team win, and I am so proud of them, and a big thank you to Coach Goldman and Coach CJ.
The Eagles will now await to see where they will be seeded for the upcoming Regional Championship.
