The Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls volleyball team kicked off its season with a thrilling five-set victory over Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School on Wednesday night and followed that up with a four-set win on Thursday against J.P. Taravella.
After dropping the opening set, the Eagles responded by winning the next two. Chaminade-Madonna forced a deciding fifth set, but MSD came out on top 15-13. MSD then defeated J.P Taravella to start 2-0 for the second straight season
This year’s team features Izzy Alvarez, Tegan Benedict, Alexa Cruz, Mia Espino, Arielle Feis, Ari Henriquez, Mia Horta, Alyssa James, Kiley McMahon, Jayden Minett, Grace Pulsifer, Caroline Rostock, Chloe Siqueira and Camilla Williamson.
The Eagles are coming off a season in which they went 11-2 and defeated J.P. Taravella in the playoffs to advance to the District Final. After falling in five sets to Boca Raton Community High School, MSD qualified for Regionals before its season ended with a three-set loss to Miami Palmetto Senior High School.
Next, the Eagles will play against Cardinal Gibbons High School at home on Tuesday, August 25 at 6 p.m. The Chiefs are 1-0 this season following a five-set win over West Broward High School in their first match.
