Two seniors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have been named recipients of prestigious National Merit $2,500 Scholarships, placing them among the nation’s top academic achievers.
Austin J. Campos and Kevin Liu earned highly competitive National Merit scholarships, according to Broward County Public Schools.
The awards are granted to students selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors who evaluate academic performance, PSAT/NMSQT scores, extracurricular involvement, essays, and recommendations.
“We are incredibly proud of these students for earning one of the nation’s most prestigious academic honors,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn in a statement. “Their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence reflect the outstanding opportunities and support provided throughout BCPS.”
The National Merit $2,500 Scholarship is awarded to finalists judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Winners can use the scholarship at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
Other Broward County students receiving the scholarship include Rickey Liu of Cypress Bay High School and Isabella Maria Borges of West Broward High School.
