Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas standout Coby Mayo delivered his signature moment of the season on Monday, blasting a go-ahead three-run home run against the New York Yankees.
The homer came in the seventh inning with the Baltimore Orioles trailing by two runs against pitcher Ryan Weathers.
“It’s been a while since I feel like I came through in a big moment like that,” Mayo said postgame. “You got to keep the process going. You can’t get too down on yourself. Every at-bat is a new at-bat.”
It marked Mayo’s fourth home run of the season after previously homering in three consecutive games in April. He now has 15 RBIs this year, along with 15 career home runs and 43 career RBIs at the major league level.
Before beginning his professional career, Mayo starred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, where he hit 13 home runs and scored 61 runs. His standout play helped him become a fourth-round selection in the 2020 MLB Draft.
