The Marjory Stoneman Douglas softball team’s season ended in Regionals after a 1-0 loss against Park Vista High School on Thursday.
The Eagles came into Regionals as the seventh seed after losing 6-0 against Coral Glades in the District Tournament. MSD outhit Park Vista 4-2 but were held scoreless for the second straight game. Myah Boleen recorded two hits, while Addison Zajkowski and Camryn Ferro each had one. Victoria Diaz tossed a gem on the mound despite the loss, allowing only one run and two hits in six innings.
MSD finished the season 13-11 under first-year head coach Sami Kelly. Boleen finished the season as the top hitter, batting .391, while Isabella Silva, Diaz, Zajkowski, Makenzie Degan, and Madison Kirk all hit over .300. Zajkowski was responsible for four of the team’s seven home runs, with Boleen hitting two and Silva going deep once. On the mound, Zajkowski led the team with eight wins and had an era of 3.28. Diaz won three with an era of 2.98, while freshman Kaitlin Enright pitched in three games and won twice.
The Eagles will return the majority of their team next year. However, Silva and Diaz are set to graduate and continue their softball careers at the next level. Silva will play at Florida National University, and Diaz will attend Manhattan College.
