The Marjory Stoneman Douglas boy’s golf team took first place in their match on Wednesday against Cardinal Gibbons, Coral Glades, and Western High School.
Held at Woodmont Country Club in Tamarac, the Eagles had three golfers. Josh Lieberman, Carson Meredith, and Max Rosen tied for second individually with a 37. Diego Femenias placed eighth, shooting a 41, while Brody Kefford recorded a 47.
Bear Tomsula of Cardinal Gibbons High School finished in first place overall, while Coral Glades came in third, with Carter Brooks and Sebastian Ortiz leading the way with 39s.
MSD previously played in a tournament on Monday at Pompano Beach Golf Course and finished in fifth place, led by Meredith, with a 76 in the 18-hole tournament. He finished ninth overall, while Evan Mazanec placed 18th with a 79.
The Eagles also played on Tuesday against St. Thomas Aquinas High School and lost by a stroke. Josh Liverman, though, shot a 35, while Mazanec and Meredith shot each other in the 30s.
“As we continue into the second half of our season, we’re focused on preparing for the playoffs by recording lower scores each match,” Head Coach Darren Levine said. “With a few more 18-hole tournaments ahead of our regular season schedule, we are gaining valuable experience to head into districts.”
MSD will return on Monday, September 23, at 12:30 p.m. at the Country Club of Coral Springs. The Eagles will face J.P. Taravella, Coral Springs Charter, and West Boca Raton Community High School.
The girls’ team was back in action on Tuesday when they played one match against American Heritage High School at Lagi Mar Country Club and lost by five strokes. Sutton Oosterhuis led the way with a 39, followed by Elisa Hernandez, Sophie Alcala Marks, Ella Thompson, and Stella Marvel.
