Marjory Stoneman Douglas graduate Yorvis Torrealba has achieved a significant milestone by hitting his first home run with his new team, a part of the Colorado Rockies organization.

Yorvis, who graduated from MSD in 2015, hit his first home run in Triple-A with the Albuquerque Isotopes to tie the game in the ninth inning against the Tacoma Rainers. It was his fifth career home run after hitting three in Rookie Ball and then one last season in A Ball. He is the son of former MLB catcher Yorvit Torrealba.

Yorvis played on the MSD varsity baseball team with Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo. After only hitting one home run during his three years on varsity, he played for three different college programs, finishing at Tampa University, where he hit over .400 with 11 home runs.

He has blossomed into a star and, in 2019, was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 20th round. Yorvis has quickly moved his way through the minor leagues and is currently one stop away from making his MLB debut.
