Parkland Crime Update: Woman Loses $300 in Facebook Laptop Scam

This is a summary of crimes and other Parkland incidents through June 10, 2024, compiled through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates with residents.

Information

Information was reported on 06/06/2024. The caller stated that a contractor installing cabinets was removing the cabinets after not receiving the second payment. The caller advised that he did not pay because he did not receive all of the cabinet pieces that were part of the agreement.

Information was reported on 06/08/2024. An out-of-town resident (via Ring camera) advised that an adult male approached his front door, looked through the front window, reached for the door handle, and then observed the Ring camera. The subject then began to walk away from the house, attempting to conceal his face. The caller stated that he had no idea who the subject was.

Fraud

A victim of Fraud—All Other was reported on 06/07/2024. The total estimated loss was $300. The victim advised that she sent money through a cash app to an unknown male for a laptop she saw on Facebook. The victim never received the laptop; instead, she received an empty box.

A victim of Fraud – Identity Theft was reported on 06/09/2024. Unknown person(s) used the victim’s information to open an account and used a credit card for purchases.
