The Coral Springs-Parkland Democratic Club is set to host an engaging session for its March meeting featuring two prominent local figures.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, March 7, at 7:00 p.m., featuring Parkland resident and Broward County Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott and Coral Springs Commissioner Joshua Simmons.
Elected in 2020, Scott is a United States Military Academy West Point graduate who was awarded the Bronze Star as an Army Captain combat leader in Iraq.
He moved to The Lakes at Parkland in 2014 with his wife, Shannon, an Army Veteran and nurse anesthetist.
In November 2018, Joshua Simmons made history as the first African American Commissioner in Coral Springs. Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Simmons graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Master of Science in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University.
Before his political career, Simmons worked in the mental health field and as an educator at Coral Springs High School. In 2016, he introduced the Democratic Presidential Nominee, Hillary Clinton, in a live appearance in Coral Springs.
Club President Amber Vaughn said Scott and Simmons will be discussing all things involving voting and the 2024 election.
“People get behind things they are passionate about, and we’re really looking forward to what’s in store for us this year,” she said.

The meeting, known for bringing together voices in the community, takes place at Sartory Hall, 10150 NW 29th Street in Coral Springs. It offers attendees the chance to engage directly with their elected officials. In April, Broward County Property Appraiser Marty Kiar is scheduled to speak.
Meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m., aiming to offer a space for conversation, education, and action on democratic principles and local issues.
Interested individuals can contact Amber Vaughn at cspkdcpresident@gmail.com for more information or to get involved.
