The Bottom brothers give it their best shot when they come up with a “Renaissance revolution,” a new kind of show, a musical, to compete with playwright William Shakespeare.
That’s the premise of the 10-time Tony Award-nominated musical, “Something Rotten!” presented by Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School drama on Thursday, March 3, and Friday, March 4.
In 1595, Nick and Nigel Bottom, played by David Prengler and Logan LaPierre, work as struggling playwrights to compete with William Shakespeare. The brothers’ antics lead to colorful interactions and humorous moments.
This is Prengler’s final production at Douglas. The senior is the acting president of the Douglas Drama Club and the recipient of numerous theatrical awards.
In November 2021, he received a Critics Choice award at the Florida Senior Thespians District Competition for his duet scene. That scene also was selected to represent the entire district at the state-level competition in March.
LaPierre, a junior, is MSD’s Drama’s Publicity Editor Officer. He received a Critics Choice award at the Florida Senior Thespians District Competition in November of 2021 for his solo musical performance. He also was awarded Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Douglas Drama’s One Act Play, “With Their Eyes.”
Nick’s wife is played by Caroline Eaton, a senior and vice president of the Drama Club. Eaton also directed productions at Douglas and co-directed the One Act Play “With Their Eyes,” which received a superior at the Florida Senior Thespians District Competition. Eaton has received many performance awards, including a superior solo musical performance.
Both performances begin at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium at 5901 Pine Island Rd. Tickets are $8 for children and $13 for adults. They are available only online at douglashigh.seatyourself.biz. Tickets will not be sold in person.
