A Message from Vice Mayor Ken Cutler:
I want to take this opportunity to thank Mayor Rich Walker for the chance to write this month’s column and my fellow commissioners for selecting me to serve as Vice Mayor this term.
Last month was a difficult one for our community remembering those we have lost and the horrors of February 14, 2018, but we are Parkland Strong and resilient. I want to commend the communities of both Parkland and Coral Springs and our wonderful residents for all of their selfless acts of service in the name of those who were injured or no longer here with us.
For those who will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this month on Thursday, March 17, have a great time, but please do so responsibly. We are still in the process of overcoming COVID, and the combination of celebration and the need for social distancing and protection can be challenging. There are plenty of car services, even services that will tow your vehicle home in Broward County, so take advantage and be safe.
March is the lead-up to Springtime activities and beyond. Lots of kids playing ball, the Parkland Farmers’ Market is still ongoing this month on the 6th (Community Awareness and Business Expo) and 20th (Health and Wellness), and lots of other great things to do.
The new Parkland Playbook is available online for activities from January through May 2022, and it provides a host of activities for all age groups, so check it out at cityofparkland.org/prec for more details.
Don’t forget, Parkland’s Summer Camp registration will begin March 7, 2022. Also, be sure to catch the March 25 Movie in the Park at the Amphitheatre at Pine Trails Park.
A special family tribute and celebration of life for Parkland’s soccer league founder and coaching superstar Peter Gado will also be held at the Amphitheatre on March 12.
The City Staff and Commission are looking forward to our Strategic Planning which will take place next month on April 10. This is very important. The City Commission and members of the City’s Executive Leadership team meet to develop strategic goals for the upcoming Fiscal Year. With the guidance of a moderator, elected officials and staff discuss and rank current challenges and opportunities and then determine policy actions to support the City’s goals and guiding principles for the upcoming fiscal year. Last year’s Strategic Plan is available online at: cityofparkland.org/budget.
Your input is extremely important to us, so do not hesitate to share your thoughts with your commissioners. Be safe, be healthy, and be happy.
Ken Cutler
