Marjory Stoneman Douglas enjoyed another successful week of girls volleyball, highlighted by a dramatic five-set win over Pompano Beach High School.
After splitting the first two sets with the Golden Tornadoes, the Eagles eventually forced a decisive fifth set. MSD then erased a 14-11 deficit and fought off match point before pulling out a 20-18 victory to earn its third win of the season.
MSD was right back in action on Tuesday against Cardinal Gibbons High School. MSD won the first two sets before dropping the third, but responded in the fourth to close out the match and remain unbeaten.
Their winning streak, though, came to an end in its final match of the week against Coral Springs Charter. The Eagles took the opening set before the Panthers responded by winning the next three, handing MSD its first loss of the season.
Next, MSD will face reigning state champion North Broward Prep on Monday, August 31, at 6 p.m. North Broward Prep went 26-2 last season, with both losses coming during tournament play, on its way to capturing the program’s first state championship.
The Eagles have opened this season with a win over NSU University School before falling in five sets to Benjamin High School and will provide another strong early-season test for MSD.
