Janetta Joseph {BSO}
A woman previously arrested in May for credit card theft in Coconut Creek is back in custody, accused of another fraud against a senior Parkland victim.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Janetta Joseph, 44, of Coconut Creek, was taken into custody on August 5 at her residence following the issuance of new felony warrants.
Investigators say Joseph used the credit cards of a woman over the age of 65 to pay nearly $6,000 in rent on a home she was leasing near the 12000 block of Bay Point Circle.
The investigation began in early February when the victim noticed two large unauthorized charges – both for $2,988.71 – on her Chase and Discover accounts. Detectives determined the payments were made to Enviroteck Realty, the property management company for Joseph’s rental.
According to court records, Joseph gained access to the victim’s credit card information without her knowledge or consent. Upon interview, Joseph admitted to making the payments but claimed she had permission. The victim denied those claims.
Law enforcement noted that Joseph has a documented history of similar crimes, including three prior convictions for grand theft and credit card fraud. The new case marks at least the second time this year she has been arrested in connection with fraudulent use of credit cards belonging to people she knew personally.
In May, Coconut Creek Talk reported that police arrested Joseph after investigators said she stole a friend’s credit card from inside her home and used it to make nearly $1,000 in purchases at Hollister, Target, and Walmart. Surveillance footage in that case captured her wearing a distinctive vitamin patch, helping police confirm her identity.
Joseph is currently being held at the Broward County Main Jail on multiple felony counts of fraud and fraudulent use of identification without consent.
