Residents of Parkland can finally look forward to improvements on Loxahatchee Road after the Broward County Board of County Commissioners approved funding for the project at a recent meeting.
Work is set to begin in the summer of 2023 and is expected to take approximately three years to complete.
The Lox Road project is a collaboration between the Florida Department of Transportation, the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the City of Parkland. It aims to increase safety for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians by providing traffic calming measures along the entire stretch of the road.
“We’re anxious to start this project to improve safety on Lox Road and ensure it has a Parkland feel to it,” said Mayor Rich Walker in a statement from the city.
The mayor also praised the efforts of District Commissioner Michael Udine, who has been a key advocate for the project and fought for increased safety on Lox Road during his time as mayor.
“It’s so important for Parkland, and I believe that makes it important for Broward County,” said Udine. “It’s been so rewarding working with City and County staff and collaborating with the Parkland City Commission. We don’t always have the opportunity to participate in projects that are win-win, but this is one of them.”
