Marjory Stoneman Douglas’s softball team won their first game on Monday against South Plantation High School.
The Eagles are now 1-1 this year after falling 3-2 in their first game to Cypress Bay High School.
The lone run in the game came on an RBI single from Olivia Alvarez, scoring Kylie Sack. Maddy Kirk and Arianna Reynolds also recorded hits, while Bianca Guerra threw six scoreless innings on the mound. She struck out eight before Jesyne Espinal recorded the save.
“Nice to get the first win of the season against a quality opponent,” said Head Coach Brian Staubly. “Our pitching has been outstanding the first two games. Both Jesyne and Bianca have pitched great, and neither has given up an earned run.”
MSD is coming off a season where they won the District Championship. They are next set to play Tuesday, Feb. 28, against American Heritage at 6:30 p.m. The Patriots are 2-0 this year and have not allowed a run, but they lost 5-2 in their only meeting last year with the Eagles.
