In a closely watched race for Parkland’s District 3 commission seat, voters chose between two contrasting candidates: a longtime resident who raised her family in Parkland — and a former Lauderhill commissioner who recently moved to the city.
In the heated race, residents chose Cynthia Murphy-Salomone.
With all precincts reporting, Murphy-Salomone clinched the race with 58.12% —or over 2,886 votes.
I am just so grateful to the people of Parkland. I just love our city,” she told Parkland Talk. “I look forward to working with the commission and Mayor Walker and continuing to preserve the unique family-friendly nature of our city, as well as working on areas we need to preserve.”
An attorney, Murphy-Salomone has extensive volunteer experience in local schools, nonprofits, and community organizations and vowed to preserve Parkland as a family-oriented city.
“My daughters grew up here, and I’ve been involved in everything from PTSO to supporting survivors of the MSD tragedy. I’m running to give back to the city that has given so much to my family,” she said in the Parkland Chamber candidate forum last month.
Murphy-Salomone, who spent an estimated $40,000 on the campaign, thanked her husband Ken, daughters Julia and Lindsey, all her volunteers, and Berger for stepping up and running.
Ken Cutler, who is term-limited, is the current commissioner of District 3 until Murphy-Salomone is sworn in this month.
