A pair of 2024 graduates from Marjory Stoneman Douglas was recently named Freshman of the Week in college.
Rylan Lujo, a four-time State Champion from the baseball team, was awarded Freshman of the Week for the second time in the A’10 Conference with Dayton University. He hit .609 with four home runs and two doubles in five games. Lujo is now hitting .417 this year and is tied for the national lead for freshmen with 10 doubles.
As a senior with the Eagles, Lujo hit .453 and had 10 home runs. He finished his high school career with 105 hits and 85 RBIs.
Taylor McGovern was awarded Freshman of the Week after her incredible run with the Eagles. Playing at Lee University, she finished with eight goals in three games, including hattricks against North Greenville and Converse University. McGovern scored 12 goals this season and had both her assists come this past week.
During her high school career, McGovern scored 215 goals and 247 assists. She was named an All-American and led the Eagles to multiple postseason appearances.
