
Marjory Stoneman Douglas Track and Field Championship. {David Volz}
On Friday, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas track and field team competed at Coral Springs High School in the BCAA Championship.
After having to qualify earlier in the month, the girls’ team came in 10th, highlighted by their 4 x 100 relay team, which came in third. The team consisted of Samanta Bandres-Chourio, Alexis Freckleton, Naomi Grissette, and Samara Osouna.
Emiliana Anzures, Cecilia Gago, Isabella Bayarri, and Alexis placed ninth in the 4 x 800 relay, while Cecilia Gago, Sienna Plambeck, Sparta Koumout, and Olympia Koumou placed 11th.
Individually, Naomi Grisstte had a pair of top-five finishes, placing fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump. Taylor Strauss also had a strong result, placing sixth in the high jump, with Anzures coming in ninth in the 1600 meters and Zengotita finishing 10th in the 3200 meters. Bandres Chourio and Strauss qualified to race in the hurdles, while Bayarri ran in both the 100 and 200 meters. Anzures also raced in the 800 meters, with Mikayla Ryan earning a spot in the high jump.
The boys team was led by Matthew Rosenberg, who came in 11th in the 3200 meters, and Austin Khayyami in the long jump. Tariq Gibbs, Bryson Gittens, Sahil Sule, and Brandon Davis ran in the 4 x 100 relay. He placed 12th, along with Isaac Reyes, Sergio Lozano, Calyx Olsen, and Carson Meredith in the 4 x 800 relay.
Christopher Jackson and Christopher Jackson came in 12th in their events, while Sule, Spinks, Robert Martone, and Jonathan Rodriguez also qualified.
