Parkland resident Daniel Haim finished 15th in his age division at the USA Track & Field Masters 5K National Championships in Atlanta on Oct. 24, competing against some of the nation’s top masters runners.
Haim, 50, completed the 3.1-mile race in 20 minutes, 25 seconds, placing 15th in the men’s 50-54 division, 52nd among male competitors and 58th overall.
The course featured 167 feet of elevation gain, with Haim recording mile splits of 6:20, 6:44 and 6:33.
“People see the finish time. They don’t see what it took to get to the start line,” Haim said after the race. “There’s no off-season when you’re chasing something at this age. You either do the work, or you don’t show up.”
Haim, CEO of Local Spark Solutions, balances his training with running a business and raising a family. He credited his wife and children for their support, along with coach Makena Morley and Fly Physio for helping him prepare.
Beyond individual competition, Haim is a member of A Run To Honor, a relay team founded in 2021 by two Parkland neighbors to honor FBI Special Agents Dan Alfin and Laura Schwartzenberger, who were killed in the line of duty while serving a search warrant on Feb. 2, 2021.
The team competes annually in the KEYS100, a 100-mile relay race from Key Largo to Key West.
In its fourth year, A Run To Honor won the Masters division for runners over 40, placed third among coed teams and finished fifth overall. In May 2026, the team completed the race in 13:24:50, finishing second in the Masters division.
“It’s an honor to continue to keep their memories alive,” Haim said of the team’s participation.
A Run To Honor is preparing for its next KEYS100 race on May 15, 2027, and is recruiting runners to join the team.
“Age is just the division you race in,” Haim said. “The work is never done. More to come.”
