Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball won an impressive game against J.P. Taravella High School 11-1 on Thursday night, highlighted by grand slams from Santiago Ordonez and Christian Arroyo.
Playing at home in Parkland, the Eagles trailed 1-0 early on but went on to score the next 11 runs as they earned their third win in four games this season.
All the runs for the Eagles came during two innings with Victor Gallo knocking in two runs with a double. Later, Ordonez hit a grand slam to give MSD a 6-1 lead.
In the fourth, the Eagles scored five more runs as Ordonez again came up with the bases loaded, but settled for a walk before Arroyo went deep with a grand slam to make it 11-1.
On the mound, Christian Rodriguez hit the first two batters of the game before settling in, striking out seven batters in four innings. Fernando Rodriguez came out of the bullpen to pick up the final three outs as the game ended after five innings.
The Eagles are coming off a win on Tuesday when they beat Pembroke Pines Charter on a walk-off from Ordonez. Earlier in the game, McKenna tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run double to force extra innings in a 4-3 win in Parkland.
“It was a great win last night. The bats surely came alive when needed,” said Head Coach Todd Fitz-Gerald. “We still have to be more consistent at the plate and have better at-bats.”
Up next, the Eagles travel to Olympic Heights Community High School in Boca Raton in their first road game of the season on Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m.
