Marjory Stoneman Douglas swimmer Alexander Nichols officially signed up with Converse University in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Nichols says signing feels amazing and makes everything he worked for feel real.
“All those early mornings, long practices, and tough meets, it’s all been leading up to this moment,” Nichols said. “I’m just super grateful and excited for what’s next.”
Nichols started swimming when he was a kid and living in St. Lucia at age five. He competed for several teams but swam with the TS Aquatics team under Coach Andre Bailey for the past 6 years. Nichols also represented MSD for four years during high school, where he said he learned something new and was able to develop each year.
Nichols won a District Championship in the 100-yard fly this past season and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle before placing sixth in both events at the State Championship. He plans to major in business management with a minor in sports management.
For college, Nichols felt like Converse was the right place for him to grow. He established a strong relationship with Coach Logan and Coach Marcella. Nichols also liked the campus and thought their business program aligned perfectly with what he wanted to study. Despite signing, Nichols is eager to continue to improve both in and out of the pool.
“Definitely looking to keep building strength in the gym and work on my technique; there’s always room to get sharper,” Nichols said. “Outside the pool, I’m aiming to stay on top of my classes and manage my time better now that I’ll be balancing college life and training.”
