Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s Drama Troupe was honored by Parkland City commissioners for their recent showing in an awards ceremony, as well as a prestigious musical performance.
The talented student troupe earned four Cappie awards and 21 Cappie nominations at the 23rd Annual Cappies Awards, held in May, according to Parkland city officials. The Cappies honor excellence in South Florida high school theater programs.
The MSD troupe was also honored with the opportunity to perform “Six: The Musical Teen Edition” as a main stage performance at the Florida State Thespian Festival in Tampa in March, according to Parkland city records.
“This is the first time in the school’s history that the drama program has earned this prestigious honor and had the opportunity to perform twice at the state level in the historic Tampa Theatre to audiences of 2,000,” city officials wrote.
