Florida families can save money on school essentials during the state’s annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, which runs from Monday, July 20, through Thursday, Aug. 20.
The monthlong tax holiday allows shoppers to purchase a variety of qualifying back-to-school items without paying Florida’s state sales tax. Eligible purchases include clothing, footwear and backpacks priced at $100 or less per item, school supplies costing $50 or less per item, learning aids and jigsaw puzzles priced at $30 or less per item, and personal computers and related accessories for noncommercial home use priced at $1,500 or less.
The annual tax holiday, made permanent under state law, gives families more time to shop before students return to the classroom while reducing the cost of school supplies and technology.
Examples of qualifying items include shirts, pants, shoes, backpacks, notebooks, binders, folders, calculators, pens, pencils, lunch boxes, art supplies, flash drives and laptop computers that meet the price requirements. Certain accessories, specialty athletic equipment and other nonqualifying items remain taxable.
The tax exemption applies to eligible purchases made in stores, online and by mail order during the sales tax holiday, provided they meet the requirements established by the Florida Department of Revenue.
