Marjory Stoneman Douglas has produced some of the nation’s top pitching talent over the years, and the Eagles may have another rising star as Tyler Stertzbach has officially accepted an invitation to the 2026 Future Games.
An upcoming junior, Stertzbach said earning the opportunity is an honor and another step toward achieving his goals.
“This was not easy, but the work is just beginning,” Stertzbach said. “It takes a lot of hard work and time. Sometimes you don’t want to do it, but when you’re done, you know you got better that day, and you take a baby step toward your goal.”
Stertzbach’s baseball journey began at the age of four, and he has never looked back. A lifelong member of the Original Florida Pokers travel program, he remained loyal to the organization throughout his youth career, developing under coaches who played a significant role in his growth both on and off the field.
He credits Original Florida Pokers coaches Lenny Roberts and Todd Fitz-Gerald as two of his biggest supporters, saying they consistently encouraged him to keep working hard and prove doubters wrong.
Ahead of his sophomore season, Stertzbach transferred from Coral Springs Charter to MSD, a move he calls “the best decision of my life.” He said the Eagles welcomed him with open arms and immediately made him feel like part of the family.
That decision quickly paid off as Stertzbach emerged as one of the Eagles’ most dependable pitchers during their run to a sixth consecutive State Championship. Stertzbach finished the season with a 3-1 record and a 1.30 ERA. In 10 appearances, he logged 26.1 innings while striking out 28 batters.
His biggest outing came in the State Semifinals, where he tossed five innings of one-run baseball to send MSD back to the state title game. The victory also allowed ace Gio Rojas—whom Stertzbach credits for helping elevate his game throughout the season—to be fully available for the championship game, where the projected first-round MLB Draft pick dominated in a victory over Venice High School.
Stertzbach will compete at the 2026 Future Games from Tuesday, July 21, through Sunday, July 26, at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, Georgia, where he will showcase his talent alongside many of the nation’s top underclassmen.
With two varsity seasons still remaining, Stertzbach enters the event as one of the top uncommitted pitchers in the Class of 2028 and will have another opportunity to continue the rich tradition of elite pitching at Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
