One Step From the Majors: Gavin Conticello Earns Promotion and Texas League Player of the Week Honors

Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball alumni continue to make an impact at every level of the game.

Whether in college, the minor leagues, or Major League Baseball, the Eagles continue to produce elite talent, with Gavin Conticello becoming the latest alumnus to make his mark.

The Arizona Diamondbacks prospect has enjoyed a breakout 2026 season, earning Texas League Player of the Week honors while showcasing his power at Double-A Amarillo before recently earning a promotion to Triple-A Reno.

Conticello, a 2021 Marjory Stoneman Douglas graduate and a member of the program’s first of six consecutive State Championship teams and first of four National Titles, was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the eighth round of the 2021 MLB Draft, and since then, he has steadily climbed through the organization’s farm system and now sits just one promotion away from the major leagues.

This season, Conticello hit 11 home runs with 48 RBIs at Double-A Amarillo. His best stretch came during a six-game series against Springfield, when the left-handed slugger batted .480 with four home runs, nine RBIs, 12 hits, and four stolen bases to earn Texas League Player of the Week honors.

Following that performance, Conticello was promoted to Triple-A Reno and made an immediate impact. He went 3-for-3 in his debut on July 11 with a home run and two RBIs before adding an RBI double on Friday against the Salt Lake Bees.

The success is nothing new for Conticello, who starred at Coral Springs Charter before transferring to Marjory Stoneman Douglas. He has played under terrific high school coaches with Charlie Fine and Todd Fitz-Gerald. As a professional, Conticello has continued to produce, hitting 54 home runs, driving in 278 runs, and scoring 267 runs while adding 45 stolen bases and picking up his 500th hit of his career in his last game. He also homered off Shohei Ohtani during spring training and set the Hillsboro Hops’ single-season franchise record for hits in 2024.
