The Marjory Stoneman Douglas boys and girls basketball team each picked up a win this week to begin the new year.
The boys team beat Deerfield Beach High School 58-56 on Tuesday. Ayden Mclean led the Eagles with 22 points, while Zack Story had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Brady Kuebler, Derek Scheidt, Christian Slack, and Jordan Dean combined for the other 25 points for their sixth win of the season.
The Eagles lost to Coral Glades 88-63 on Thursday and by two points in their final game of the week against South Broward High School. However, the junior varsity team went 2-2, beating Deerfield Beach and South Broward but losing against Coral Glades and Westminster Academy.
The girls team lost a tight game against Deerfield Beach High School 58-54 in overtime to begin the week and went on to win against Coral Glades 57-10 for their fifth win. They fell in the final game against South Broward High School 40-28.
Next, MSD will return to the court on Monday, January 13, against Piper High School. The girls team will play at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m. Both the Piper boys and girls teams have won seven games this year.
