Marjory Stoneman Douglas closed its fall season with two teams competing at the State Championship while soccer and basketball seasons were in full swing.
The swim team was led by Lorenzo Herek, who placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle. The Eagles also had two relay teams reach the B Finals, along with Sophia El Chantiry in the 50-yard freestyle. The girls’ cross country team also had seven runners compete at the state championship: Sophia Zengotita, Sparta Koumoutsakis, Caroline Schwartz, Olympia Koumoutsakis, Noa Nierman, Jada Pfingsten, and Cecilia Gago.
The football team finished the season 1-9 and had their only win against Coral Springs High School, while volleyball won the District Championship before falling in regionals in four sets against Coral Reef High School.
In basketball, the boys team began the season with a 73-66 win over Charles W. Flanagan High School before losing against Pembroke Pines Charter and Everglades High School in their next two games. The girls basketball team is 0-2 following losses against McArthur and Pembroke Pines Charter.
The boys’ soccer team is off to a dominating start, behind 4-0-1. They have wins over Western, Deerfield Beach, Monarch, and Coral Glades, outscoring their opponents 11-1. They also played to a 2-2 draw against Cypress Bay High School.
The girls ‘ soccer team is 3-0-2, beating Western, Cypress Bay, and Coral Glades while settling for a tie against Cypress Bay and North Broward Prep.
