The Marjory Stoneman Douglas cheerleading program capped off its season with an impressive showing at UCA Nationals, highlighted by standout performances from both the junior varsity and varsity squads.
The Eagles’ JV Small Intermediate team delivered a remarkable run, advancing all the way to the finals and finishing second in the nation. The team previously competed in two local head-to-head competitions at Coral Glades and at the UCA Regional Qualifier in Orlando earlier this season.
The JV squad was led by captain Emily Haas and included Ava Paton, Rylie Brown, Chloe Morris, Katelyn Schaffer, Kenley Reda, Lexi Merrill, Drew Siddens, Sydney Ward, Stella Dellatto, Layla Tulepan, Madison Mann, and Solimar Rivera.
“From the bottom of the rankings to hitting a zero on the mat in finals and a second-place finish, this JV team showed what a Cinderella story really looks like,” head coach Patti Thompson said. “They truly exceeded every expectation.”
The varsity coed non-tumbling team also made a strong national impression, advancing to the semifinals and placing 13th nationally. The Eagles had an outstanding postseason, winning a District Championship, placing second at Regionals, and finishing sixth at the State Championship.
The varsity roster featured three seniors—Mouttet, RJ Meis, and Maci Norkunas—who were honored earlier this season. They were joined by Amanda Stone, Ava Fernandez, Ava Paton, Chloe Morris, Drew Siddens, Emily Haas, Emmy Thompson, Gabriella Savastano, Jordan Bretz, Kailey Arteaga, Katelyn Schaffer, Kenley Reda, Kylie Jennings, Layla Tulepan, Lena Fleck, Lexi Merrill, Lexi Verderame, Madison Mann, Rylie Brown, Sami Stallings, Solimar Rivera, Stella Dellatto, and Sydney Ward.
