The Marjory Stoneman Douglas football team officially opened its regular season on Thursday, falling 41-6 despite an impressive touchdown run from Travis Willis in the first half.
Willis’ touchdown came with the Eagles trailing 21-0. Anthony Diaz also appeared to return a kickoff for a touchdown, but the score was wiped out by a penalty.
The Eagles previously took the field in the Kickoff Classic, where they fell to Boyd H. Anderson High School. MSD is coming off a 4-6 season and will look to bounce back when it faces Coral Springs High School on Thursday, September 3, at 6 p.m.
The Colts will enter the matchup after forfeiting its first two games of the season following a late coaching change. The Colts will also be looking to avenge last year’s meeting, when MSD earned a 35-12 victory.
