Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ next wave of talent has officially started making college decisions, with standout infielder Ander Elorriaga becoming the first player from the Eagles’ Class of 2028 to announce his commitment.

Elorriaga has decided to continue his baseball career at the University of Cincinnati.

“It feels great to commit to play college baseball, especially at the Division I level,” Elorriaga said. “It’s been my dream ever since I picked up a bat.”

Elorriaga began playing baseball at age 4 with the Parkland Pokers before moving to Georgia, where he competed for several travel programs. After returning to South Florida, he joined the Original Florida Pokers, recently helping the organization capture a BCS Championship after hitting .425 with four home runs and 23 RBIS. Elorriaga also played a key role in helping MSD win a historic sixth consecutive state championship.

After receiving just two at-bats as a freshman, Elorriaga earned a starting role during his sophomore season and hit .279 with one home run, 14 RBIs and three doubles. He also delivered one of the biggest plays of the season, executing a two-strike suicide squeeze that drove in the game-winning run in the state championship game. Elorriaga said representing MSD has been an honor and credited the program with helping him grow both as a player and as a person.

“It means the world to me every time I get to put on that jersey and play baseball with my brothers,” Elorriaga said. “Knowing I have two years left is crazy to think about, but I can’t wait to hopefully win more rings.”

Cincinnati quickly separated itself during the recruiting process.

“After visiting the school, I fell in love with it,” Elorriaga said. “Meeting the coaches and talking everything over with my family and coaches made me realize it was the best fit for me.”

The Bearcats are coming off a 38-win season that ended with the program’s ninth NCAA Tournament appearance. Cincinnati opened the tournament with a victory over Louisiana and has produced 56 MLB Draft picks in program history, including three from this year’s roster.
