
Piper Bourne and Caleb Hebert {BCPS}
Two seniors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were honored for their exceptional academic achievements. They were named recipients of the prestigious 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Piper Bourne and Caleb Hebert, have been awarded college-sponsored scholarships, securing their futures at Florida State University and the University of Florida.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is renowned for recognizing high school seniors who exhibit exceptional academic prowess. The scholarships, sponsored by colleges and universities, range from $500 to $2,000 annually and can be renewed for up to four years.
Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn expressed immense pride in all the scholarship recipients.
“This is a tremendous honor for these students and a testament to their hard work and academic achievements. We are incredibly proud of them and wish them all the best in their future endeavors,” he said.
In total, 17 seniors from various high schools across Broward County have been recognized as National Merit Scholars.

This year, 149 higher education institutions are sponsoring Merit Scholarship awards through the National Merit Scholarship Program. These sponsors include 77 private and 72 public institutions across 42 states and the District of Columbia.
An additional group of scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2024 competition to more than 3,600.
