The Marjory Stoneman Douglas swim team wrapped up its season at the State Championships, highlighted by several personal-best performances.
Sophomore Benjamin Ruytenbeek led the boys Eagles with an 11th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, recording a personal-best time of 21.49 seconds. He also helped the boys’ 400-yard freestyle relay team post its fastest time of the season, though it did not advance to the finals. Ruytenbeek added another personal best with a leadoff split of 48.18 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.
Junior Nikki Harrypersad also had a strong showing, finishing ninth in the 100-yard freestyle, narrowly missing a spot on the podium. The girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay team placed 15th overall, setting a new season-best time. The team featured Harrypersad, Isla El Chantiry and seniors Bella Schubow and Carly Chin.
Schubow joined the Eagles after moving from Chicago last year, while Chin, one of the team’s captains, competed at States for the fourth time. Chin closed out her high school swimming career by anchoring both the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.
