
Marjory Stoneman Douglas Track and Field Championship. {David Volz}
The Marjory Stoneman Douglas track and field team competed in Regionals, led by Christopher Jackson at Coral Springs High School.
He led the boys to first-place finishes in the triple jump and second-place finishes in the long jump, automatically qualifying for the State Championship. Jonathan Rodriguez and Kyle Campbell each had strong results in the triple jump and long jump, respectively.
Sahil Sule also placed 12th in the 100 meters, and Carson Meredith came in 19th. Joshua James, Sule, Jackson, and Trisanu Burchell ran in the 4 x 100 relay and came in 15th as the team came in 12th overall.
The girls’ team came in 11th overall and had several third-place finishes. Samantha Bandres Chourio, Alexis Freckleton, Naomi Grissette, and Samara Osouna came in third in the 4 x 100 relay, while Bandres Chourio earned that in the 100 and 300 hurdles.
Taylor Strauss came in eighth in two events, along with Grissette in the 100-meter hurdles. Emiliana Anzures, Isabella Bayarri, Alexis Freckleton, and Bandres Chourio were eighth in the 4 x 800 relay, while Emiliana Anzures and Grissette also added top-ten finishes. Sophia Zengotita also qualified in the 3200 meters.
