The Marjory Stoneman Douglas track and field team competed in the BCAA Final on Friday at Dillard High School.
After qualifying for the final in March, the boys’ team was led by Connor Stallings, who finished fifth in the 100 meters. He also placed seventh in the 200 meters and eighth in the 300 meters. Matthew Rosenberg came in 10th in the 3200 meters, with Cole Spinks placed 12th in the 1600 meters.
Alexis Freckleton had the top result for the girls, finishing fifth in the long jump. Naomi Grissette came in sixth in the triple jump and also ran in the 100 meters and placed 11, along with the 4 x 100 relay with Jamie Faust, Alexis Freckleton, and Samara Osouna. Mikalyla Ryan, Antonella Rodrigues, Mia Fernandez, and Kalli Wheeler ran in the other relay for MSD, while Sophia Zengotita placed eighth in 3200 meters. Samanta Bandres Chourio also came in tenth in the 400 hurdles and 12th in the 100 hurdles.
Head Coach Mike Mauro said everyone who competed at the counties did a phenomenal job and had personal bests in every event.
“This shows how dedicated to getting better for the competitive part of the season our athletes really are,” Mauro said. “Friday was one of those days where you remember why you love coaching and coaching who you love.”
Next, MSD will compete in a race on Thursday, April 11, before the start of the District Championship.
