Marjory Stoneman Douglas graduate Christian Rodriguez made his college debut in style, pitching a scoreless seventh inning against Dayton University on February 21.
The 2023 graduate missed his entire freshman year after undergoing Tommy John Surgery. With the Gators leading 13-1 in their fifth game of the season, Rodriguez made his college debut, striking out Orginal Florida Pokers alum Alejandro Sardinas. After an infield single, Rodriguez added his second strikeout before getting the final out on a fly ball to center field.
Rodriguez has shown dominance before, registering an incredible high school carer. Covid interrupted his freshman year. Rodriguez won three straight State and National Championship before signing with the University of Florida. In high school, Rodriguez went 29-2 and pitched to an era of 1.19 with five saves. He had 310 hitters in 168.2 innings before signing with the Gators. Rodriguez also helped Team USA win a Gold Medal at the World Cup.
Rodriguez’s debut came against a former teammate, Rylan Lujo. Despite not facing him on Friday night, former MSD star Jake Clemente faced Lujo on Saturday, with Lujo winning the first battle with a single in the first. Clemente won round two, getting the freshman to ground out to shortstop, but Lujo did make an incredible catch in foul territory during the series’ final game.
