Ivan Sabater. {954 Preps}
Original Florida Pokers standout Ivan Sabater heard his name called on Day 2 of the MLB Draft, selected in the 20th round by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Sabater starred at West Broward High School, where he put together an outstanding senior season on the mound. He finished the year with a 2.92 ERA while striking out 80 batters in 50.1 innings.
He continued his strong performance over the summer, recording 37 strikeouts in 23.2 innings against top competition. Before his senior season, Sabater also helped the Original Florida Pokers capture two BCS Championships.
A University of Miami signee, Sabater is part of a talented Hurricanes recruiting class that also includes first-round pick Gio Rojas.
He now faces a major decision: sign with the organization that drafted him and begin his professional career, or honor his commitment to Miami, where he would not be eligible for the MLB Draft again for three years.
