Flag football continues to rise in Parkland, producing standout players and highly competitive teams year after year.
That growth has been fueled by a strong foundation of local recreational leagues, middle and high school programs, travel teams, and offseason development opportunities that allow athletes to train and compete together year-round.
As the Parkland area has emerged as a hotspot for girls flag football, the Parkland Flag Storm 14U girls travel team is headed back to Nationals for the second consecutive year. The team secured its spot by winning the NFL Flag Miami Dolphins Regional Championship in back-to-back seasons.
Many of these athletes also compete at the high school level, building strong chemistry through shared experiences in leagues, tournaments, offseason events, and summer programs. The team finished first in a six-team round-robin before advancing to the championship game, where they faced Tru Skills Academy, a matchup of two undefeated teams with a Nationals bid on the line.
Parkland jumped out to an early 13-0 lead and held off a late push, ultimately securing a thrilling 13-12 victory by stopping a final extra point attempt in the closing moments. The win marked their second straight 14U Girls Regional Championship.
The Parkland Flag Storm 14U Girls are coached by Kraig Zaharia, Nirm Shah, and Mike Rachimi. The roster includes Emily Broch, Olivia Ged, Sammy Link, Izzy Miller, Noa Rachimi, Avery Shah, Ainsley Weissman, and Kaitlin Zaharia. Together, this group has helped set a new standard and is part of the early wave of athletes elevating girls’ flag football in Parkland and beyond.
Other local programs also turned in strong performances at the regional tournament. Fast Feet Elite advanced multiple teams into the playoffs across several divisions, highlighted by an 8U boys semifinal appearance. Their 10U boys, 10U girls, and 12U girls teams each reached the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Parkland Bomb Squad made a run to the 14U girls semifinals before falling to Tru Skills Academy.
Nationals are scheduled to take place in Westfield, Indiana, from July 23–26, where Parkland Storm will once again compete against top programs from across the country.
