For Greg Tyshynski, the Parkland Dash on the morning of October 11 was a family activity.

He earned second place overall in the male division for the 5K, and his wife, Dana Lynn Kaye, operated a booth for her company, Devotion Nutrition, one of the run’s sponsors. Their daughter, Bijou Kaye, age 14, participated in the 5K run. The family lives in Parkland.

“This run was a lot of fun, and I was happy to win second place. This is a good event for the community,” said Greg.

The Parkland Dash brought the local running community together at Pine Trails Park, and participants could run five miles, 5K (3.1 miles), or one mile.

Mark Parrott of Coral Springs earned third place in the 5K in the 44-49 age category and ran with his daughter, who earned second place in the 5K in the 11-14 age category. “This was a good race, and I felt good when I was running,’ said Mark.

The five-mile race included some elite runners. Chris Kelly of Coral Springs earned second place overall for the 5-mile race. “This was a good race, and it was good to get second place. I am training for a marathon in Sarasota and the Boston Marathon,” said Kelly.

Kendra Warren of Tamarac won first place in the five-mile run in the women’s 40-44 age category. “I had a good run today, and I was glad to win first place in my age group,” she said.

After the run, participants could enjoy a social event with fellow runners, family, and friends. Money was raised for Tomorrow’s Rainbow, which offers the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association model. According to the organization’s website, it uses horses to provide therapy.
